Our Decodable Readers are explicitly and systematically aligned to each lesson in our Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E. program that directly correlates with the research behind the Science of Reading.

Each lesson within the program includes a Decodable Reader that aligns with the phonics skill and scaffolds previously mapped
high-frequency words and phonemes that are explicitly taught!

Explicit & Systematic

This Research-Based Program will help teachers implement the Science of Reading research within their small group reading instruction following a structured Scope and Sequence covering phoneme development, phonics, syllable types, spelling rules, and affixes. Every lesson in the program builds upon the previous lesson to ensure mastery level in decoding, vocabulary development, fluency, and language comprehension. This program includes over 100 DECODABLE BOOKS that align with each lesson and builds upon previously learned skills that scaffold and increase in difficulty.

Scaffolded Sequences

This Science of Reading aligned program contains six sequences of reading development beginning with the Sound Sequence to help your earliest learners with foundational skills in individual phoneme development and the alphabetic principles. Sequences 1-5 follow a structured & scaffolded approach to develop a solid foundation in phonemic & phonological awareness, phoneme-grapheme mapping, decoding, mastery in syllable types and spelling rules.

Phonological Awareness

Each lesson in the beginning sequences includes strategic and scaffolded phonological awareness practices to build a solid foundation on early literacy skills as students continue to build their fluent word recognition and decoding automaticity. The lessons focus on onset and rime, rhyme recognition, rhyme production, syllable blending, syllable segmetation, syllable deletion, initial phoneme isolation, initial phoneme deletion, phoneme segmentation, phoneme blending, phonemem substitution, final phoneme isolation, final phoneme deletion, sentence segmentation, and alliteration.

Orthographic Mapping

Orthographic Mapping is ESSENTIAL to reading mastery. It is the process that we use as readers to see unfamiliar printed words and turn them into recognized sight words with automaticity. This program EXPLICITLY teaches the skills of letter-sound proficiency, phonemic proficiency, and word study to build fluent readers that have strong decoding and comprehension skills. Phoneme-Grapheme Mapping is an integral part of each lesson to practice the connection-forming process that turns unfamiliar printed words into familiar printed words.

3-Tiers of Instruction

The curriculum focuses on three tiers of instruction. Whole group oral/auditory instruction of 5-7 minutes per day. If students need additional support on specific skill areas, tier 2 activities are performed in small groups. Tier 3 instructional supports include additional independent activities on the specific skill and small group partner work if needed.

Whole Group Instruction

The Whole Group Instruction tier focuses on quick, engaging skill-based oral instruction that focuses on the ability to recognize and manipulate the spoken parts of sentences and words. Students will practice identifying words that rhyme, recognizing alliteration, sentence segmentation, identifying the syllables in a word, and blending and segmenting onset-rimes.

Small Group Intensive Intervention

Tier 2 instruction includes lessons and activities to implement during small group instruction to allow students additional practice on specific phonological skills and phonemic awareness activities that will give students additional interventions to reach mastery level.

FAQ's

Guided Readers has been developed by a veteran classroom teacher with more than 23-years of experience in reading instruction, to provide you with the most effective and rigorous resources to help you teach your students to become fluent, confident readers AND love to read in the process.

We have been deeply engrained in learning about the research behind the Science of Reading and how to effectively incorporate it within our program.

We are extremely proud to announce that we have officially launched our Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E. program that is based on all of the scientific research behind the Science of Reading and implementing a Structured Literacy approach to teach reading.

Guided Readers mission is Successfully Guiding Readers from Learning the Code to Reading for Meaning.  We will be accomplishing this task, through our new Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E. program and begin the process of aligning all of our resources with the research behind the Science of Reading.

We are committed to providing teachers with research-based curriculum resources that will help them easily implement the scientific research within their teaching methodologies and helping children bridge the gap between Learning to Reading and Reading to Learn!

You won’t find any boring theories or ideas that don’t actually work in practice. This program is based on scientific research, and best practices in literacy instruction and development!  Implementing Guided Readers in your classroom will ensure exponential growth in your students’ reading skills as they travel down the "Reading Road" from Learning to Read to Reading to Learn!

YES! Guided Readers will provide you with a range of research-based resources to help reach all of our learners.

We strongly suggest that teachers begin using our Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E. program that is aligned to the Science of Reading and follows an explicit and systematic scope and sequence with decodable books that scaffold in skill development.

Each lesson within the program spirals and continues to reinforce previously taught phonics skills, high-frequency words, spelling rules, and syllable types to ensure MASTERY, and not merely exposure.

Part of Guided Readers mission is to help teachers build lifelong readers in their students by providing them the foundational skills and superior decoding instruction through phoneme-grapheme mapping activities and helping student build their orthographic lexicon.

Guided Readers is a membership site that focuses SOLEY on helping teachers successfully guide their students from learning the English code to becoming critical, fluent readers. Guided Readers provides an explicit and systematic scope and sequence, detailed lesson plans based on the Science of Reading, decodable books, and resources for teachers to download, print, and be ready to teach their students HOW to read!  Once students have master the code, they can begin their journey on Reading for Meaning using or fiction and nonfiction books that focus on higher-level comprehension skills, vocabulary development, syllabication, and morphology.

The resources on Guided Readers WILL NOT be accessible in my Teachers Pay Teachers shop.

Teachers have consistently told us that implementing small group reading instruction felt overwhelming and difficult, especially now with all of the Science of Reading research beginning to make its way into the public school systems— and Guided Readers is here to give you a framework and a clear roadmap to helping your students successfully learn to read and love reading in the process.

This program gives you the step-by-step system you need to create a rigorous, consistent plan of action to get your students reading with confidence.
