Title I Services

Welcome to Title I

About Title I    father and son

Thank you for visiting our website. Title I is a federally funded program that assists students struggling in math and reading. It is not a Special Education program. Since its inception in 1965, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, known formerly as No Child Left Behind, and now known as Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), has sought to equalize educational opportunities and resources so all children can succeed. Title I is the cornerstone of that Act.

The goals of Title I are to help students achieve academic success in core subject areas of Reading/Language Arts and Mathematics, increase student performance in high poverty schools through school-wide and targeted reform, build teacher growth through quality professional development, and enhance parents' abilities to help their children succeed by offering parent involvement activities.

In the Beloit Turner district, Powers and Townview Elementary Schools are the sites for Title I programming. The district is newly designated as school-wide, which means all students in these two schools can now benefit from resources rather than a targeted population. Schools with school-wide programs use Title I funds to develop comprehensive strategies for improving the educational program of the whole school in those with a 40% or more poverty rate. All staff and classes become part of the program.

Parents are an important part of the Title 1 program. When parents are involved in their children's education, the children's learning improves, better grades and test scores are attained, and a good attitude towards learning is realized. Their children complete homework and attend school regularly. That can lead to long-lasting school success. The Turner district has developed a school-parent involvement policy which is updated as needed to serve the community. Click the parent link at the top of the page for a copy of our policy.
